Thinking of buying an AquaC EV 180 for my 125 gal reef tank. Just currios if they are as good as their web site makes them out to be?

A buddy of mine has one and he says he likes it. I've seen it...looks like it is built very well and pulls dark skimmate.

He told me that he had to use a bigger pump that what they recommended to him.... I guess it wasn't working well for him at first. But he got a bigger pump and has loved it since.

I've got an EV-240 on my 240 gal. They recommend either a Mag 12 or 18 if using a submersible pump. I went with the 18, and it works pretthy well. I find myself fiddling with it periodically to get the skimmate a bit wetter or drier, but that's just me. I would buy it again...especially since comparably powerful needlewheels tend to be significantly taller, and I'm out of room!

I recently purchased an EV180 for my 135g tank. There's an old thread, that I can't locate right now, which discusses them in detail. The main point was as stated above that people who went with larger pumps are quite happy and those that went with the recommended pumps weren't. I chose an Eheim 1262 for my EV180.

I have a 180 and an ASM the Aqua C in my opinion outskims the ASM but the downfall of the Aqua C is that is needs more attention in the maintenance area. It skims so good that you need to clean the chamber wall almost every 5 days to keeps it at its peak skimming level. I like it and wont trade it for anything.

I have a 180 and originally used it with the recommended Iwaki pump and it proved to be slightly underpowered. After going up one size it produced very well. It took a while to get used to and dialed in but once you find the sweet spot it really performs. I am very limited for space in my sump and fish room and the compact size of the 180 really worked out well for me. There's a photo in my gallery of it with about a days worth of skimmate.
