Sump/fuge design?

Which design is more efficient and why specifically? A sump/fuge with a center return, or a sump/fuge that is a flow through design with the return pump on the opposite end of the intake chamber.

I'm building mine know left to right

overflow = baffles = return = fuge

I have dual overflows one goes to the fuge with a ball valve so I can control the flow then then it splits to join the other overflow where the skimmer is housed through the baffles back to the return .
You only need enough flow passing through the fuge to stop from becoming stagnant , reason for the ball valve
