royal gramma gasping

right now in my 24g aquapod i have a perc clown and a royal gramma. the levels are pretty good, (for some reason i had a little nitrate spike, not very big) but my royal gramma seems to be gasping a little bit. other than that he's fine, swims around and eats, but i find it a little unnerving. is this just a result of the nitrates and will go away when i clear them out?

Mine does that once in a while, it's almost like a yawn. He really does it when other fish get to close to him.
