n00b question about calc reactors
hi
i started my first reef tank a couple of weeks ago, and all is well with it. my question relates to it though. i have a planted freshwater tank which i'm going to break down that has pressurized co2 and i was wondering if i might eventually need a calcium reactor on a 33gl (36x12x18). being new to reefs, i haven't really looked into calcium reactors yet. do they have a place in a small tank or are they mainly for larger ones? i don't plan on moving to a larger tank for a few years, and i'd feel like a dummy selling off my co2 gear if i can use it down the road. |

lol ok.
2 tanks, one is a freshwater planted with pressurized co2 (ph monitor/etc). the other is my reef tank which i just started. due to some bad luck with light, my planted tank is dying and i can't recover it so i'm gonna break it down and that leaves me with a bunch of co2 equipment. should i hold on to it for a calcium reactor? do they have their place in a smaller tank? i haven't looked into them much (yet). |

I would hang on to it. CO2 systems are expensive to buy or replace and you already have everything but the calcium reactor chamber it sounds like. You probably won't need a reactor on a 33G unless you have large quantities of SPS or "hard" corals. If you are like a bunch of us you will end up with a bigger reef system one day though!

attack... Just for the record, I think puffer was simply welcoming you to the site.. His Signature says 'repeat that' and that gets repeated in every post... Kinda funny that you re-stated what you did in your original... I had to chuckle...

I'd hang on to it! CO2 equipment isn't cheap, and who knows, even if it doesn't end up in a reef you may get another planted tank itch.
I like planted tanks myself

ah the sig! i wasn't sure if it was one or not
i was planning on going with a mix of compatible lps/sps/softies; nothing too crazy. mostly medium light/low-medium flow corals so with that plan i figured the co2 could be useful. |
