Sweet coral.
jaeden: When the applicator clogs, you can heat it with a lighter and it will unclog. And that's your tip for the day! ![]()

Split Number 5? Surely this is the longest thread in RC history?

I had to. People kept asking me what page we were on, or how many times it had split.

Do you have any problems with the SPS browning when you use Chemi-Clean ?
My tank getting some cyno about three hours after my light come on and goes away after three more i have the MH on for 8 hours. I did use the CC before but it brown all of my SPS and kill one clam. Do you have any advice how to use this product . And if you think will be safe to use it. Thanks. |

I do think it is safe to use, and I use it often enough that the cyano in my system must be immune at this point.
About two weeks ago, I put in enough Chemi Clean to treat 600g of water (two packages worth), and left the skimmer off for 48 hours. After that, I changed 55g of water, and turned on the skimmer. I do buffer the alkalinity/pH 10 minutes before dosing, because it will drop when you dose. When I was ready, I checked pH and it was 8.2 and ORP was 379. I added some baked baking sode mixed in RO water, and 10 minutes later, added the Chemi Clean. ORP dropped to 81 in 90 seconds. The BTAs looked upset, but the rest of the reef was unaffected, including the Maxima. The mfg recommends adding an airstone to the tank when dosing, but I have a huge sump and lots of flow (rippling surface) so I believe my system has oxygen covered. A lot of the cyano bacteria died back. I think I should have just dosed for 300g, and then after 48 hours added another dose instead to hurt the already weakened plague. That stuff is annoying, to be sure. However, I've never had any losses nor had SPS turn colors after using it. |

Growth Sequence
Yesterday while working on my site, I came across this old picture from two years ago.
This is three days after the blue A. millepora was put in the 280g reef. It is located right above the Flame Angel and was maybe 5" wide, basing that on the size of the T. maxima clam below it. August 5, 2004. ![]() Here it is, twenty-two months later. Same spot, just much bigger, to the left of the white feeding clip. Its baby is to the left of the main colony, located between the two Tunze Streams. ![]() At twenty-three months, I had that rockslide, and had to rearrange the corals. Here's the underside of the parent colony. Note the Astrea snail for a sense of scale. ![]() In their new position, taken under actinics. ![]() This is a macro shot taken from above; the parent colony with its baby beneath. August 11, 2006 ![]() I guess you could say I definitely got my money's worth with this coral. |

Hey Marc, the tank is looking great. I've been out for a long, long while... building our house for the last year... I can't believe your post count!!!
Keep up the good work. My tank is up and running although the upkeep has been dismal for the last year. Everything is still alive, but I need to do some major pruning and maintenance. Your thread here has inspired me to get back at it. Later, Dan

A couple of nights ago, the Tiger Cowrie was on the glass. That is rather unusual, so I grabbed my camera and tried to get some decent pictures in low lighting.
![]() For this picture, I turned on the lights in the room to provide some back-lighting. ![]() Finally I turned on the flash. ![]() ![]() It is about the size of a lemon. I like him. ![]() |
