Question Octopus Skimmer NW-110

Anybody else hook this bad boy up in sump?

When I got mine I had 2 extra end caps and a 3 inch piece of small gray PVC tubing .. I couldn't figure out where they went?

What is that for?

It's been running for a week+ (~11 days) and only produces skimmate when I add photoplankton ..

What gives?

I believe all those parts go together to form a sound baffle on the airline. I didn't need that (it is quiet).

Mine will produce like crazy after feeding as well (when the return is turned back on) but not much otherwise. I kind of figured it was because my tank is new and doesn't have that many fish, I really don't know.

Does anyone know at what level the water in the sump should be? Does it matter?

Also what level should the out tube from the sump be? I have mine as high as it can go, is this correct?

Yeah I have the same water level as you .. as high as it goes.

Do you have bubbles coming out of the needlewheel pump as well?

I can see some escape before making it into the water column.

on a new tank it will take a little while to start producing some skimmate

even on older tanks it usually takes a little while for a skimmer to "break in"

Are they escaping at the L fitting right out of the pump? Mine doesn't.

A couple things I did wrong when setting mine up, I put the rubber grommet in that top L fitting and I had the coupling that has the airline on it too tight (restricting the pump a tad).

it actually looks like its escaping near the water intake?
