coraline algae disappearing
My 30 gal tank is about a month and a half old and my coraline algae is disappearing. Water chem has been great from day one. Ammonia, nitrite and nitrates never got above 0. pH stays at 8.1. Did my first big water change and the sg is a little low, 1.02, but have been told that should not be a problem at this point. All of my critters, chromis, zoos, polyps, mushrooms, xenia, fire shrimp, star serpant etc all seem very happy. I had a small issue with green hair algae so I added two very large blue leg hermits who took care of that but coincidentally the coraline is disappearing. I read they could be the culprit but have also heard they couldnt be. Any thoughts? Also my lights do stay on over 12 hours some days. I read too much light might be a problem too. Is it time to invest in a timer and any suggestions on a good one?
Thanks Bill |

How about the rest of the water parameters, especially calcium and alkalinity? Is the algae fading, or perhaps being eaten?
I would raise the SG carefully over a period of a few weeks to 1.026-1.027. That might help, but likely something else is causing the disappearance.
