Need advice on DIY collection cup drain

I'm having to empty my collection cup on my Euroreef ES 5-3 skimmer every other day.

I want to add a DIY drain line for the collection cup.

Any advice on the best way to do this? Best drill bits? Etc.

Thank you.

i got a threaded 90 degree elbow with a barb fitting on one end

used a dremel to get it close to the perfect size. used a little silicone and it looks as good as if i tapped it.

i put my drain about a inch up the cup so i can see how much it pulls out in a day

I use a small bit to drill a pilot hole, then drill with a step drill.

I never drilled on a Euro-Reef (creepy) but It wasn't difficult when I drilled on other skimmers. I always like using a pilot hole. Use sharp bits. Just go easy and steady. Don't push; let the bit doe the work. Many may suggest a specific type of bit, but I have always used standard bits (newer and sharp) without a problem.

I used a 90 barbed but threaded on the other side so threading the hole is another fun aspect. Run the tap in until it starts threading a bit and back it out again. Repeat the process. Don't ram it and jam it.
