Jumping Lawnmower!
After not seeing my Lawnmower Blenny for a couple days I went looking, found him dried up on the floor behind the tank. There's only a couple of small holes in my covers, which I'll eliminate tonight.
But is it normal for blennys to be jumpers? I lost a False Perc clown a couple months ago the same way. Phil |

yes i've heard that blennies can jump, but sometimes there has to be a reason for them to jump, wether it be bad water, they got spooked, or they are being picked on by other fish.
also i woudlnt suggest completley closing off that cover. That wont allow for any gas exchange which may lower your pH. But if it doesnt lower it, then i guess it will be fine.

I think the general rule is the more long and slender looking a fish is the more prone to jumping they are. There are always exceptions to the rules though.

Mine spends the night on top of a seio powerhead... a inch below the waterline. I hope he doesn't decide to jump.

lol ya a friend of mine has a lawmower (and a couple other blennies for that matter) and it will sit in the seio while its turned off (the output part) because he's got it on a wavemaker. And whenever the thing kicks back on the fish gets a free ride to the other end of the tank
i've also heard that longer, more slender fish will jump, but i have no clue if its true, and there will always be exceptions...like clowns for isntance...i hear quite a bit about them jumping and yet they're not long or slender

i just had a spotted goby jump out of my tank and die 3 days ago. i was so mad because i knew they were known for jumping, so i eliminated virtually everyspace he could jump through, but he still did it. I will keep an eye on my blenny. thanks

Hmmm...maybe I need to dig through the tangle of cords behind my tank some more. I had a Diamond Goby dissapear a couple months ago too...He was a very long slender fish.
I'm not too worried about gas exchange since I'm using a skimmer, can't get much more airation than that. I also have an HOB filter which produces very turbulent water with open air exposure. Phil
