Pic - id help needed
![]() I got this coral yesterday. I think its a Fox coral - it was unmarked and unpriced, so I made an offer. It is about 6 inches long.. opens up much larger. It is huge and very beautiful. Then in this picture I notice that little face on the top of the coral, right side. The face reminds me of a jawfish... but i don't have any fish that look like that. I haven't seen it since, but I'm watching. Any ideas on what that is? |

Very nice addition! I don't see the face that you're referring to...did you forget to post another pic or am I just blind?

It looks like it may be an Elegance Coral (Catalaphyllia jardinei). The tentacles look very short, which is usually not a good sign. Do a search on RC for Elegance Corals and you will see some threads on that. Fox Corals (Nemenzophyllia turbida) will not have tentacles, only ruffled and "fluffy" polyps. Good luck and don't forget to feed it.

I agree that it is probably an Elegance coral. Though people describe great difficulties keeping them alive, I had a healthy Elegance coral for over three years. I gave it away when I took my first tank down.
