Missing Firefish

I have not seen my firefish in two days. Granted he has always been shy but usually I see him hiding or he will come out for feedings. I am wondering if I need to start breaking down the tank to look for him or if I should wait longer.

He disappeared shortly after I added a yellow clown goby, anemone and a fire shrimp. Could one of those have anything to do with its disappearance? If so, I'll start breaking down the tank immediately. If not, I'll wait a bit longer to see if he comes out.

Thanks

He's just hiding because of the new additions. Does not take much to send them into hiding. I would just leave well enough alone and wait it out. HTH

Look on the floor

Look on the floor, that is where I found mine. When I first noticed him missing, I looked all over including the floor and did not find him. I found him a week later in the little crease where the carpet meets the wall . A dried up firefish is thinner than a pencil and hard to see.

I have had a few fish jump put of my 27. Cleaner wrasse, 2 firefish, 2 onyx clownfish and a bicolor angel. Or the anemone could have gotten him.

Don't tear down your tank. Chances are if he did die you won't find any remains anyway. Hopefully your cleanup guys have disposed of his body. If he went into the anemone it certainly would eat it. Sometimes things just disappear and we never find out why.

Firefish are known to jump if the tank is not covered. They usualy jump when stressed or scared and when you put new fish in the tank.

Don't tear down your tank looking for it, that's a waste of time and will only stress the fish more if he's in hiding..

If he's dead, your clean up crew will take care of it.

Check your overflow also (if you have one). Mine jumped into the overflow, through the U-tube, and swam around my pre-filter on several different occasions...

Thanks for all the advice about not breaking the tank down. He finally showed up! I was getting worried. I guess Firefish just like to hide for very long periods at a time. The weird thing is that now that he finished hiding he is acting very social and swimming all over =)
