lighting and algea

i have a 75 gallon tank with abut 100 lbs live rock and about 3" live sand. i have 6 65 watt pc lights and 1 90 watt pc. 4 are 10k and the other 3 are actinik. i have been haveing an algea problem. i run my lights from 2 30 to about 10 pm. all of my levels are just right and the water that i use is ro/di. one of the bulbs is 2 weeks old but the rest i got with the tank from a guy and i dont know how long he had them. so can old bulbs make the algea grow or what is it thanks jeremy

Old lights surely can add algae issues. I had the same problem. You always want to double check your phosphates though. Usually thats the problem. Do you have a skimmer? How long has the tank been set up?

pc,s have the shortest light life span some say 6 months 8 months

when lights get old the intensity drops and algea does favor that.

not sure on the clams i think you would be close if the clams were very close to the surface. check the clams section and read up a little there and youll find your answer. [if your bulbs are old i would say not enough light]

Your nutrients could be high. Algae feeds off of organics in the water as well as phosphates. If you remove the phosphates and organics, then change the bulbs and hopefully your algae will disappear.
