Paint on base rock?? OK? Remove??
I have a large piece of painted bae rock (coral)
This was from a freshwater tank, purchased from a pet store. I want to use it in my new 125gal tank and mix it with my live rock. Will anything even grown on this rock? It is probably 50% covered with splotched paint. I tried to wire brush the paint off... No good. Maybe soak it in something? It would need to be reef safe? Vinegar maybe? Or should I just leave the green paint on??? |

If it doesn't bug you, its probably safe to leave on. If it doesn't look right, then well... back to scraping I guess.

It just bugs me..
If it would be covered with something eventually, it would not be a problem.... I am going to try a vinegar soak, then scrubing |

the dead coral will not grow anything on it except coraline . which is good. unless you frag some live corals to it. i have done this with a couple time like: i have a dead brain coral that i bought from a LFS as a decoration was paint and still it but in turn i used it to mount from green star poply too. now it look cool!

Chances are the paint has cured and will be no problem. Ask yourself this though, is it worth putting in your tank, considering the cost of your livestock, let alone your time invested?
