carpet anemone hiding in rocks
my carpet anemone has moved again but this time has chosen to hide inside of the rocks. Do I need to take try and move it out where it can get some lights or will it do that on its own. Hiding in a 20G tank with 20lbs live rock and 3" of live sand. Only other inhibitant at the moment is a ocelaris clown. I would have to dismantel the rocks to get at the anemone.

I'd leave it alone. Moving an anemone is asking for trouble. You could injure it. It might be dividing or unhappy. What have you been feeding it?

Leave the anemone alone, how long have you had it in your tank?
Id wait to see where it goes in a week or so, anemones tend to move a lot when they arent satisfied with their location. On a side note, dont get stung, they hurt pretty bad, if mishandled. Get latex gloves on, or a spatula, lol. I had the same problem with an RBTA in my tank, wasnt too happy during its first few weeks in my tank, now it hides during the night, and comes back out to the same exact spot, each and every day ever since. Wierd, how it works, because its location, has the least amount of light, flow, and is the exact spot where it first set foot in my tank... very strange... |

The carpet anemone has been in the tank for three weeks and moved four times. I realize they move a lot but have never read where they go hiding behind something as I thought they liked the light and water flow. One of the locations it chose was at the water line but soon learned after a couple water changes it did not like that location. I am surprised and amused to know that some anemones will move on a daily basis. I have left it alone and keeping an eye on it. Thanks for the reassuring advice.

yes anemones will move till they get comfortable. BTA's are some of the worst as far as moving around. carpets arent as bad, mine has been in the same spot for over a year now.
