Pyramid Snails? If so, I don't have any clams right now, so will they be harmful to anything now, and how can I remove them?

Okay 2nd pic is definately pyramid snails, they are mollusk predators so fits the bill perfectly. Remover them ASAP!
The first pic, I'm not sure... they kinda look like sundial snails. they are zooanthid predators.

1st could also be collonista as well. What's the approximate size of them?

I'll see if I can find a size reference. If not, I'll take one when I get home tonight. Biggest are about the a little smaller than a pea.

Can't find a size reference...all the pics I uploaded last night are already cropped out, will take one when I get home. BTW, and suggestions on the easiest ways to get the bad snails out? Any natural predators specific to these snails, and not good things?
BTW, what's everyone's ID on this? Mexican Turbo Crab |

I have some of these in my tank and was worried that they were the ones that eat zoas so I did some research and came across this.
"Collonista [Link 1, 2] (Figure 10) Collonista are "mini-Turbo snails." They are seldom purchased by hobbyists, but are relatively common in reef tanks anyway, because they appear to hitchhike in on live rock or in some live sand. When hobbyists first see them, they presume them to be "baby" grazers of some sort. Instead, they have some of these animals. They reach a maximum adult size of about 1/4th inch (6 mm) in height and diameter. They are often tan to white and have mottled brown color patterns on the shell. They can be distinguished from all other Trochoideans by their small size and the presence of a small pit or hole in the center of the calcareous operculum that plugs the aperture. They reproduce well in aquaria, and are quite good grazers. If present in large numbers, they may effectively replace all other grazers in our systems." http://www.gastropods.com/1/Shell_26361.html |

I have those top snails by the Butt Load. Hitched Hiked on something... They mostly only come out at night and do reproduce like mad. I usually suck out as many as I can when I do water changes. I've never seen them hurt anything but to me they are an eye sore. There is also the change of them getting in a pump and tearing up an impeller... Which is what worries me the most.

Electric Blueleg on that Crab. I miss the two I got from Larry. Wouldn't mind picking some more up myself.

Actually, it's not a blueleg...it's a zebra reef hermit...I was joking about the Mexican Turbo Crab...he was tiny when I got him, and he's become the largest crab in the tank...then one day he took over that Mexican Turbo shell, and he still hasn't stopped growing.

bet you bought SOMTHING at AA. they have tons of em.
When I look in my tank at night, every BIT of rock I have is covered with them. They are grazers and arent bad to have. Some people are even looking to buy them. I used to pick em out at random but gave up. The white pointy ones I have too. and they LOVE to hang out on my snail shells as well. occasionally on the glass. I had a post a long time ago about them and there are pyramid snails that specificly harm clams, and others do not. I am on the lookout for a clam. Ill let you know if they gravitate towards it. But im pretty sure they wont. I have lil clams all over my tank and they never go near em dont know if thats the same tho...

I have a ton of these little "baby Mexican turbo" snails. I've often wondered if they were good or bad. I haven't seen them do anything bad, so I've never taken them out. I also initially thought they were baby turbo's but noticed that none ever "grew up".

Yep...actually I bought big turbo snails at AA, so that's probably what both came in on. Have you noticed if you've lost any snails in large amounts since getting the pyramids in your tank? I don't have plans to put a clam in this tank, but future tanks I do, so hopefully I'll be able to get rid of them by then. We'll see.

the I.d. on the small turbos is correct they are about the best algial controll avaliable, seldom for sale. (too hard to collect I supose) They will reproduce well if they are eating well in your system. I think of them like I do bristle worms, a valueable part of a complete clean up team but if you give them too much to clean up they experiance a population bloom.
I had them prior to my tank crash, I shure do miss them.

Maybe if I have enough and can grab enough I'll bring some of the small turbos/colonistas to the frag swap. I'll have to see what I can catch.

i can catch at least 200 and still ill have too many. I dident think about it, but i could bring some too. I see them being asked for in the wanted forum sometimes
thebrian... funny you should ask about snails. I have some snails that ive had for at least 7 months, and theyve had the 'pyramid' snails on em the whole time. but at the same time i cant seem to keep a astrena snail for over a month or two no matter HOW hard i try. Ive had at least 3 kick the bucket this month. turbos, black turbos and black footed trocus are doing great. my temps always 82 though. donno if thats a factor....
