Yellow Tang and Regal Tang together?
I currently have 3 Perc clowns(less than 1"), a yelloe head goby and a cleaner crew in my 175 tank. My LFS told me I could safely add 3 Yellow tangs and 1 Regal tang to my tank.
From what I have read, this would seem to lead to fighting and overcrowding. What do you think? Anybody have Yellow Tags and Regal Tangs in the same tank?

I'm not sure crowding would be an issue, and the hippo will probably get along with the Yellows, but the yellows may not get along with each other. I added 3 all at the same time and 2 of them killed the third.

I would just get 1 of each. Usually the same species will fight.
Ive never had a problem with a yellow and a hippo together. Remember tangs are ich magnets though. kass |

I kept a yellow and a hippo together for over a year till they got too big for my tank. They never bothered each other at all.

I have had 3 yellows and a hippo (regal is the same, right?) in my tank for about a month and a half. I knew we were taking a chance but we tried to reduce the chance of them fighting to the death by doing it a certain way.
We added all 4 tangs at the same time so none had territory. One of the yellows was almost twice the size of the other 2 so there would be no question who would dominate. Also having 3 instead of 2 divides the picking of the big one. There were no issues with the hippo. The big yellow would pick on the others during veggie clip time but that stopped when put another veggie clip at the other end of the tank. We see very little bickering amongst them and when it starts the smaller one usually darts in a cave and the other loses interest. Usually we see the two smaller ones lazily following the bigger one around copying his movements (swimming, grazing, etc.) I think it really helps that our tank has lots of open space and lots of caves and caverns to swim through and around. They seem very content. For this reason I doubt we'll ever have any more than the minimum amount of live rock in our tank. Have a look... Full tank view: Lining up for cleaning: Just hanging out:

Yeah it might work in a big enough tank. I know they say if you try more than 1 to do 3 instead of 2 the same.
If it were me I still would go with one of each. I tried 3 hippos and 1 died within 2 days so of the 2 remaining one kept picking on the other until I had to remove one. Also a month and a half isn't enough time to say. I had a flame angel and a coral beauty live peacefully together for over 5 yrs and one day the flame decided it wanted the coral beauty dead and picked on it relentlessy. By the time I removed the coral beauty it was too late. You just never know. One thing we all agree on is don't get 2 the same lol. kass |

I have a hippo and a yellow tang together for about 5 years now. My suggestion would be to put the hippo in first as they are the shyer of the species (except for mine who is the absolute boss ). They get along for the most part, but it is obvious that the hippo is the dominant member of the tank. He is also the biggest, so that may have something to do with it.
