Any nitrite and ammonia kits?
Are there any ammonia and/or nitrite kits that don't use color cards to compair against? I'm finding it difficult to identify the difference between the different shades of yellow or pink. The only salifert kit I could get was nitrate so that isn't helpful this early in the game I dont think.

Without a colorimeter or spectrophotometer its difficult to get exact color matches with your eyes. These are colormetric tests and there isn't any choice on that. What you can do is:
Use the test as a qualitative test. Don't try to get all technical and make it quantitative. Quanititative is the exact number, qualitative is a close enough test. True qualitative is positive or negative. You can use semi-qualititative, meaning none, trace, small, moderate or large amounts. Your aiming for zero, but won't panic until small or greater. Another thing you can do is calibrate your eye. Little tougher to do. You would need to make standard dilutions that correlate with the levels on the color chart and run the test and see what each level actually looks like. Mike |
