plumbing and wiring next to main drain from 2nd floor bathroom-code violation?
i want to put a hole in my baseboard to plumb and run wire to the basement......but the easiest and most open area from the 1st floor to the basement is next to the cast iron pipe draining from my 2nd floor bathroom.
any problems with doing that??? |

I'd ask a professional electrician. Sounds a bit dicey to me, but I don't do wiring.

Definitely best to check with a local authority as codes can differ from place to place, your building inspector may be helpful in this also.
In my area, an electrician told me that there were no restrictions on pulled romex wire, so that may be ok in your case also. |

its for a new circuit to run everything for the aquarium
the current wires going to that area will blow the circuit when i get some lights the plumbing part is just for a drain just in case of a flood inside the stand and to do water changes without getting my hands wet

actually there isnt anything in the "international plumbing code" that pertains to this, only against running piping of anytype over electrical rooms/closets, or over electrical panels, disconnects, etc. in those cases you have to re-route or provide a water deflector over them. in your case it should be ok, but i would run wires in a 1/2" or 3/4" conduit for saftey. wiring and plumbing occupy space together all the time in walls, chases and ceilings. when in doubt always contact the jha (jurisdiction having authority), which would be your cities housing inspector. hope this helps out.
