qt cycle

I had a bacteria outbreak and set up a quick qt. well the fish was about gone anyway, and he didnt make it long in the qt. the filter is new so i was thinking of just leaving the fish in the tank to get the cycle going and later when the levels are at 0 i will qt the new fish.

does this sound like a plan??

My concern would be the proliferation of the bacteria that killed the fish. Why not toss the fish and use some shrimp or better yet IMO, use a small sponge in your main tank and transfer to the QT when needed.
