Do I need 46.5 or 48 inch?
If I have a 48inch tank, do I need a 48 inch retrofit VHO kit or 46.5? There is exactly 48 inches in my canopy - im assuming if I urder 48 inch bulbs, they wont fit in the canopy once the end caps are in there.. or is the length of the bulb considering the end caps already?
stated a different way, are 48" bulbs 48" with or without the end caps? My current PC hood is exactly 48" long and it barly fits into my canopy - thanks! |

to be safe, you could use the 46.5" to give you a little room in the canopy.
But for what it's worth, I have a 48" tank and use the 36" VHO's . . . they work great- that is, if you are planning on using the VHO's as supplemental lighting only |

I thought that all "48 inch" bulbs were actually 46.5 inches. Learn somthing new every day I guess!

i'm using 46.5 in my canopy. 48 inches would have been extremely tough with the endcaps

If you have exactly 48" inside the canopy you want 46.5" bulbs.
I have two standard AGA canopys for my 55 and 75 gallon tanks and I use 46.5" bulbs.
