Water change with some probs

I did a water change last week, and since then, my kenya tree has shrivled and turned white and a small leather frag is still purple but doesn't open up.

i checked the salinity and its sitting at 1.022 but i've always had it at 1.019 and everything was always fine. also my fish are acting skittish and not as relaxed as they used to be. but all my other corals are fully open and seem to be lovin it.

should i do another water change today and lower the salinity?

salinity swings r baaad. why where u running it at .019 anyway, thats well low..

u should be heading for more around the .025 mark... but the swing will have affected ur corals for sure, thats bad, ur water change water should read the same as the tank when u do it, exactly..

wierd thing is, it did match exactly at the time, all of it must not have dissolved

the 1.019 for some reason was keeping everything happy... when i went up to 1.022, all my zoo's and xenia loved it, but the leather and the kenya hated it..?

whats the first thing i should do to the tank today is really what i'm asking..?

thanks

also, i'm using this:

http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/pr...ge.asp?id=6565

from my experience, it reads a little low on my tank. so i'm probably going to go change out some of the water today and lower the salinity down a bit. anything else i can do?

I have tested several Deep Six hydrometers in our store against a refractometer. One was a whopping .006 off right out of the box! Instant Ocean's hydrometers tested fairly well.

Yes the tank was actually 1.031 and the hydrometer read 1.025.

well theres my problem. it reads at 1.019 usually, which would be about 1.024-1.025 and now it reads 1.022-1.023 which is actually 1.028-1.029. that would explain the prob i'm having. water change today for sure to lower that bad boy back down! hopefully my leather and kenya will recover.

DONT do that. dont just assume that its off by .006 that could and most likely would turn out very bad. also. when you raise your levels, you do it slowly. fast changes like that are going to reak havoc in your tank.

find someone with a refractometer that you can test you meter against to see whats up. or at minumum get a diferent kind to see any diferences.

well, i lowered it down to what my hydrometer reads as 1.020, all my fish are calm now and are swimming and not hiding anymore, no change in the leather and kenya, i assume they might just need time to re-acclimate. well while i'm waiting, i'm finishing up the in tank sump on my 10g and i'll go ahead and start filling that

gotta love this hobby
