film on water surface of tank-remora pro?
hi.
i recently purchased a remora pro skimmer for my 65 gal tank. it works fairly well but there is 1 problem. the last week every night it seems that there is a thin filmy white bubble layer on my water surface. i have not added ANY thing to this tank in weeks (except the water was changed of course) besides food. my calcium is still on the high side and i am trying to let the water parameters get to a normal state after ill-advisedly added alot of "supplements" to the water for months. the guy from aqua c said it wouldnt hurt the tank, and it wasnt from the skimmer-(but i never had this before the skimmer...) anyone have any ideas? thanks!

It sounds like the normal surface scum that most tanks get if they do not have an overflow of some sort. Does your tank have a sump? If not, you can by surface skimmer boxes to attach to your skimmer pump so it will pull that scum into the skimmer. I have one for a CPR Bakpak (Rio pump) that I no longer use that I would give you a deal on if it would work.
In the meantime, point a powerhead or something at the water surface to create turbulence. This will help break up this film. You can also lay paper towels on the water surface to collect this junk. |
