It's all about the flow
I'm planning to supplment the flow in my tank and was looking for idea's and opinions. First of all my tank specs. It's an oceanic 105 show. 48X18X26 with a 2-3 inch sandbed. I have about 125-150 lbs of lr. My return pump is Mag 9.5 I also have two maxijet 1200's. I want to increase flow and reduce dead spots in the tank. I was wondering which way would be best over the back closed loop since tank is not drilled or add more powerheads. I'm leaniing more to the closed loop because I don't really care for all the powerheads in the tank. Ideas and Pics would be apprieciated. I'm planning a mixed reef. Thanks in advance.

heres some links to how to build a closed loop for a non-drilled tank.

A large scale over the back closed loop is asking for a lot of problems. Melevs design seems to work best on a smaller scale. I would go with tunzes and a multicontroller for the east of installment. The price of a good CL will be about the same anyway, and an intake for an over the back closed loop will in my opinion be more intrusive than two tunzes.

Any other suggestions or pics. I'm worried about flow behind the lr. Thinking a closed loop system would be better. Seems like you would have better control of flow.

I have been using a melev over the back closed loop on my 120 for over a year with no problems. It's running with a Mag 12 full out and works great. I just take it off the tank every now and then and run the pump and SCWD through a weak muric acid bath and call it good.
