Starting my first reef tank.

I have most of my equip. but I am trying to make up my mind, shallow sand bed or Jaubert/Plentum filter (D.S.B. plenum and a protein skimmer) I started this about 6 years ago (long story). And I am down to my substrate. I hope to get this going by the end of the year I made a plenum back when I got my tank (75 Gal.) and started this. I made my stand, I have a eheim wet/dry pro filter a SeaClone skimmer, I just put in the order for my lights (Tec. T5 6x54W. 48In.) and the list just gose on and on, you know what I it's like. Thanks to anyone that will take a little time to help me.

get a better skimmer. the seaclones are junk!!!! a suggestion would be the octopus needle wheel skimmers or an aqua c remora pro or an asm skimmer but remember to get a skimmer that is rated over your total water volume because you cant overskim but you can underskim.

Remember to add circulation to your system. Seio, MaxiJets, even Tunze (or MaxiJet Mods).

I second that!(or 4th, I guess) Invest in a better skimmer. I went from a Seaclown to an ASM G3 and my tank has never been happier

I second the recommendation for the Maxi-Jet mods. Amazing bang for your buck. Or if you have the money and the means, Tunze or Vortech are the way to go!

I have read mixed reviews regarding the use of a plenum. You hear horror stories on sandbed crashes after multiple years in service. To me the safest bet is a moderate ~2" sandbed. I have a DSB in my refugium. Should things start to sour, I can an easily take it offline without interupting the main display.
