Over skimming

Does it hurt the system if you over skim your tank? is there any such thing as over skimming?

I do not think so, once there is no waste the skimmer will stop skimming.

I can't say it hurts for an sps system. I use the biggest skimmer that i can fit. Soft corals like xenia, zoos and mushrooms may suffer though.

i say overskim the hell out of any tank at any time...if it is even possible...people will say tanks need nutrients so overskimming is bad...crap on that...you can feed the tank heavily and vary it making up for the lack of nutrients...even more food!!!! and that way the stuff you feed gets skimmed out and you dont a refugium of nuisance algae for your display!!!!

I have been told my skimmer is wat to big but 75 with a skimmer thats rated for 500gal its a ev400 with a mag24 skim the hell out of it

Reefing is'nt how long you been in it. It is how deep you get in it.

Current Tank Info: 400g display build, 300g sump, 75g ATO, 75g refug and a few more. Close to a 1000g. 200g mixing station.

I don't think you can overskim a tank. As for removing food for you filter feeders I think this can be worked around by turning your skimmer off during feeding and for between 1/2 hour - 2 hours after feeding is done.
