highfin snapper

Just saw one of these at the local LFS...

Cool fish, but will eat smaller fish and get to be 24" long

I guess it isnt going into my reef

I had one in a reef and loved it, it doesnt bother corals. Will eat shrimps though, and is a VERY fast swimmer and likes open water... Eats feeder fish like a champ...

They are interesting fish. Exactly which one are you referring to? There are two species commonly (incorrectly) referred to as the high fin snapper-- Symphorichthys spilurus and Symphorus nematophorus. The former is usually agreed to be the high fin snapper. Let's just say that there is a dramatic size difference between the two, which is why I am asking. One species can be kept in fairly large tanks greater than 300 gallons (preferably 500), while the other will need excesses of over 1000 gallons. Both pretty much eat anything that moves and can fit into their mouths.
