Show me Pics of Pistol Shimp & a Yellow Watchman Goby That Paired Up

I have a yellow watchman, hopefully I can find a shrimp that will pair up with him.

I have a YWG, Thursday I am picking up a Tiger Pistol Shrimp for him.

Hope they pair up. I'll snap a pic if they do

That's OK I just don't want to buy anything that might hurt other stuff in my tank.

Pistol shrimp can move around rocks and cause a rock slide when they make their burrow (or so I've heard).

Make sure your rocks are secure.

Also I thought I read that they were blind and the goby and shrimp will help eachother find food.

Info about the Tiger Pistol

This attractive Pistol Shrimp is generally colored with alternating tan and white bands. Pistol Shrimps are also known as "symbiosis" shrimps from the mutually beneficial relationship the shrimp has with gobies. The goby, with better eyesight, warns the shrimp of predators, and the shrimp shares its food with the goby. Like all shrimps, they require careful acclimation. Sensitive to changes in specific gravity and pH, always acclimate slowly.

I have that same problem. In two tanks. One has a Yellow Watchman and a Tiger and the other is a Orange Spotted Sleeper with a Tiger. Neither has paired up yet. Its only been a month or so so hopefully they will find each other.

You are talking about a pretty temperamental pairing.

This relationship can be pretty tough to create, you are much better purchasing a symbiotic pair that already like each other.

Unlike a Clown, Anemone, the goby shrimp thing is a lot harder to create. I purchased my mated goby pair with a tiger shrimp already in the group. ($65 for 2 fish and the shrimp already paired)

I agree. The YWG has been in the tank for about 6 months and I only recently discovered the PS, which means that it has been in there since the tank was set up; about 10 months ago.

For pistol shrimps and gobies to pair up, they have to look somewhat similar to each other. YWG usually go with the caribean type which looks somewhat yellowish orange.

I doubt it, the goby pairs with a pistol shrimp which lives under rock in sand etc. The skunk lives in the open. setting up a cleaning station.

I have a YWG and it is paired with a pistol shrimp, I bought them at the same time from the LFS.

I've read that the best way to pair a goby and shrimp is to introduce the shrimp first, allow it to make a burrow, and then when you add the goby a few days later you do so in a manner that the goby has no choice but to go into the burrow (like release him from a container directly into the hole).

I have a Randalls Goby and a Tiger Pistol. They were purchased and introduced into my tank at the same time and are paired up ever since. A really interesting pair to add to a reef.
