Stagnant water?

I buy my water from my LFS, 20g at a time which lasts about a month. (14$/month isn't too shaby) The guy at the LFS told me that as long as I keep my 5 gallon jugs air tight that the water will be fine to sit for a month.

Is this true?

That is true, but it would be better to add a powerhead in there to keep the water moving. Not only will this keep the water from becoming stagnant and harbor unwanted bacteria, it will also keep it well aerated.

what about airstones? or should I throw all of it into a trash can and then add a powerhead to that? but it needs to stay covered also right?

ahh so many questions...

thanks for the help!

If it is Saltwater I would keep it covered. It keeps evaporation dpwn during storage which keeps your SG where you need it. I keep my Freshwater covered also mainly just to keep misc crud and cat hair from getting in it.
