Flush Kits???
Hey everyone, I have purchased a Kent Marine Maxima Ro/Di Unit and I am looking for a flush kit. I read on marine depot that the normal flush kits they sell are not for Ro/di units but only Ro. Is this true? They said that a Ro/Di unit required a KMFLUSHKIT2 and that it was a special order. If i bought this would I just be being ripped off? It sure seems like it.
Also are they(flush kits) even that necessary? thanks a bunch |

Flush kits extend the life of the membrane.
You can use them on the RO/DI unit. It does not affect the DI part of the unit.

I am not intimately familiar with that unit.
Check with one of the other sponsors for RO/DI setups. I have used SpectraPure and the Filter Guys. They will get back to you quik.

I wouldn't worry about it. My tap water exceeds 700 TDS, I get over 3 years of useful life out of a membrane and have never owned or used a flush kit. Mots people who have and use one are using them improperly anyway. The best time to flush a membrane is at the end of a filter run when the buildup is still loose and can be flushed off easily. I have yet to have someone prove to me they do anything at all and I have been around these units a long long time.

thanks for that. Also what do you use to get Ro water back up to reef water. Is there a super powder that re adds the right minerals/chemicals but not the evil ones like phosphates and nitrates?

No chemicals or buffers are needed. Your salt mix will contain everything a normal reef requires. Once you get into stony corals some calcium and alkalinity additives may be needed but thats easily accomplished.

Everyone see's something different in a flush kit. I believe they are good and do extend the life of your membrane but should be used at the end of each water making session only for a minute or two. They are only made of three fittings used to by-pass your flow restrictor and to use or not use one is your choice.
As far as RO/DI water do not add anything unless you are dosing kalk which can be add to the water and dripped. Top off water is to replace evaporation and all the elements are still in your tank. Jim
