Question Potential GPH Pump Flow

I was told that if you have any head pressure, height, sharp angles such as 90 degrees and "splitting" of flow offered by Ts will dramatically drop the GPH potential of a pump.

Is this for every pump or are certain pumps capable of pushing the same amount of water per hour regardless of height, angles and "splitting" of flow?

For example...will the 3600 GPH potential of a pump, like the dart or barracuda, drop significantly because of height, angles and Ts whereas that of a reeflo tarpon, which is "pressure rated" (by the way what the heck does that mean?), will pump 1440 GPH regardless of height, angles and Ts?

Look on the RC homepage under head loss calculator.

Thanks. But it doesn't seem that the tarpon is included in the pulldown menu.

May not be. It's still a pretty new pump. To answer your original question, pressure rated pumps handle head loss (90s, t's, etc) better than high flow, low pressure pumps.

I quikly found out how muh flow is reduced when using lots of 90's and bends. Pipe diameter also has alot to do with flow.
