Pump restriction through output holes..

i have been told to run double the size fitting through my Mag 9.5 to my tank. For instance... its got a 3/4" fitting on the pump so I should make it into 1 1/2" piping to my tank. My only problem here is that the holes going to my tank may be big enough but the adapters that came with my tank's plumbing take it right back down to 3/4" at the bottom of the drilled tank. Should I take it back down to 3/4" then back to 1 1/2" once through the bottom of the overflow? Or because of the restriction in the overflow should I even bother running 1 1/2" piping and just run the 3/4" all the way through?

This is one of the challenges with mag pumps. They are flow pumps and dont do well with small plumbing. The RR tanks have 3/4" bulkheads. Yes, run the large plumbing on both side of the bulkhead if you want to maximize the flow. 1.5" is a real PITA to work with. I'd use 1.25" to make it more manageable.

Depents on the distance. if it's really short, stay with 3/4. 3/4 to 1 1/2 seems like alot ,but reduce as far down the line as you can(right before the tank bulkhead).

3/4" will cut the flow back drastically on the typical sump to display distance. Typically, the full flow of a mag9 is too much for a return pump anyway. Less flow is not a bad idea.

I don't think it'll matter much once you get the piping into the tank... by this I mean use the larger piper up until the bulkhead and then use 3/4 in the tank...

how much plumbing would you have in your tank?

I just finished redoing my CL with mag 9.5 from one with a SCWD with all 3/4" plumbing to one that has 1.25" on the return up until a T that reduces to two 3/4".. awesome flow now compared to before and am kicking myself for waiting so long to do it...
