Poly-Bio-Marine Kold Ster-il Water Filter

Anyone use the Poly-Bio-Marine Kold Ster-il Hi-Flow Three Stage Water Filter? An LFS near me recommended that over using RO/DI saying that the water quality is nearly as good (and good enough for reefs) but without the waste (and less expensive too). Water output measured in GPM vs. GPD too. I'm nearly sold in this but I'd like to hear your input before purchasing...

...the web site says it's good drinking water too.

Please, if you have experience with this water purification system (good or bad), please let me know.

Thanks!

If you don't want any waste water, and your tap water is less than 50 TDS, and you use very little water. maybe.
Gallon for gallon it is not cheaper at all!!! and it also not as good. it also does not pull out much phosphates at all.

if you want to use it with a DI maybe but your water will not be very cheep

Check your phosphate level of your tap water. K-Steril is very poor at removing them. You must add an alumina cartridge to 2nd canister and even then all phosphates will not be removed. I wanted to use it too, but my phosphates were close to 3ppm,extremely high. Get a phosphate kit and heck yours.

It doesn't even come close to what an RO/DI can do. I had one and used it for a couple of years before finally getting an RO/DI. If you have zero phosphates, silicates, nitrates in your tap water and your tap TDS isn't real high then it may be okay for you but I wouldn't recommend it.

I forgot to mention that I'm on well water, so really I wouldn't be wasting the water anyway, I could find other use for the dischared water. I appreciate advice from those that have tried this other filter much more than hearing it from someone who sees me with dollar signs in their eyes. I thought that it sounded too good to be true. I've heard and read nothing but good things about RO...

Thanks!

Welcome. I'm on a well too but I just let the water run down the drain. IMO it's not wasting the water since it's going right back to where it came from in the first place. If you're not in an area that is subject to droughts and dried up wells then the whole "waste water" thing is overblown anyway.
