Red algea
hello
i dont yet have red algea but i have a 2nd stage of brown algea an di am afraid that red is comming since it takes about 3 months to develop and its beeen a little over 2.5 so i am going to start to switch to R/O water its a 30 gallon tank so i am going to do about 10 gallons of R/O water so is there anything i should know should i take it all out then add it little by little every 5-20 minutes so they (fish) adjust to the temp,salinty.ph? ok well any suggestions would be nice thanx you all |

i havent ever heard that red slime/cyano takes 3 months to develope...because the week i set up my 40 breeder, cyano started growing. But in new tanks, its just a phase, so i really wouldnt be too worried imo. If you keep your nitrates and phosphates down, it will go away on its own.
as for changing to RO water...i would not do it all at once. Just do water changes with ro water from now on and it will be ro water eventually (but make sure you mix the salt into the water before you do a water change lol. Dont just add fresh water)

Change about 5 gallons of saltwater per week or 10 gallons of saltwater every two weeks. Using tap water will most likely cause your tank to go through some pretty bad algae blooms so you are doing the right thing by switching to RO water.

well even if you use ro water its still gonna go thru its normal algae phases in the beginning...but ro is definately better for the tank, theres no argument in that.
