Chiller Preferences?

I was thinking about adding a chiller this time around and I was wondering what brands people are using. I was contemplating a 1/3 HP "Prime" in-line model or maybe a "Delta" Any experiences with either of these two I should know about before making the purchase? Thanks in advance.

Mike

I have a Pacific Coast 1/4 horse and it has been a reliable investment. I will return business some day. Tinman

I've heard good things about the Prime chillers. I run a JBJ 1/5HP which is a nice chiller because its very very quiet.

Pez Vela,

If you are anywhere near Hayward give Aquarium Concepts a call. I got my 1/10 JBJ new in the box for $100 less than listed online price.

I love my 1/4HP JBJ. Silent, and attractive enough to sit next to the tank.

In with the JBJ out with the Current-USA

My 1/4 hp Current USA drop-in crapped out about two weeks after the 1-yr warranty period. The titanium drop-in coil developed a pinhole and leaked refrigerant into the tank. No ill effects observed.

The drop-in was an after-thought. I should have gone with a plumbed-in. After hearing (or not hearing) a JBJ on another tank, I ordered the Arctica Titanium 1/4 hp. It is significantly quieter than the Current chiller. I mean significantly. It is only slightly louder than the small beer fridge in my basement. The compressor is nearly silent - the noise is air noise from the fan. JBJ also comes with a two year warranty although given the poor translation of the warranty documents, I'm hoping I don't have to use it.

I'm off to see what I can do with Current-USA on the current chiller. They only have a 1 year warranty but it shouldn't crap-out after 13 months.
