trouble with two little fishies phosban reactor
Every time I put the phosban in the reactor, a couple days later it has run through the filters and is dumped back into my sump. Am I setting up the reactor wrong? The lower filter always rises to the top, and all of the media is gone. Does the top filter go on top of the red barrier?

How much water are you running through it?
It sounds like you may have too much flow. If so, the media should softly "roll" inside the reactor. Jim

You should have one of the media filters at the very bottom and another one at the very top. This keeps the media inside the reactor if you overfluidize it.
Like jimdogg187 stated, the media should softly roll inside (meaning the top 1/2 cm of the media.)

Mine are set up like this from top to bottom:
1) filter pad 2) red thingy 3) media 4) red thingy 5) filter pad And yes, the flow should be just enough so that the media 'rolls' in about 1/2 cm.

it the filter material is catching very much, the flow rate is probably too high or you've got too much media in the chamber.
The reactor is designed to hold 150 grams, which is only about 1/2 full. As for flow, I've seen values on the Marine Depot website at 150 gph, but that's WAY too high. The instructions recommend a flow of 30 to 50 gph. At that rate, almost nothing should be making it to the upper filter. |
