New Metal Halide Bulbs - Pieces Rattling Around
I just bought new 175W Single Ended bulbs (from HelloLights). One of the bulbs has pieces rattling around down near the socket (Can't see anything but hear it). The other does not. Both bulbs light up and appear to look alike. Could there be something wrong with the bulb, should I send it back?

If the pieces are shards of glass, that is normal and should not effect the bulb performance. That happens when the maker of the bulb seals the glass outer envelope. You can contact hello lights, they have good customer service.

Thanks Harold!!
FYI - I contacted HelloLights and they returned my email promptly. I guess nothing to worry about. This is more common than not for halide lamps, especially european lamps like Radium, Ushio, Hamilton and Geisman. The glass that you hear is a product of the crimping of the metal screw end base that broke some glass off of the tube and is trapped in the mogul base. This is a very common thing that happens and will not effect the performance of the lamp in the least bit. Please feel free to contact us at 866-969-7333 if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting us and have a very nice day. |
