Feeding your cycle?

I have been told that to feed my cycle I can pinch in some Formula One. I dont have any yet but I was wondering..Can I use any fish food, like the Hakari floating pellets that I feed to my oscar...

Do you need to start a cycle in a new tank? Or you're asking about what to feed during cycle?

If former, then best to start cycle with LR ( otherwise frozen fish food should do the trick, or uncooked cocktail shrimp). If latter (presuming you have LR and cycle is going), then you do not to do anything.

you can use the fish food, just measure for ammonia, once that is going, you probably can vacuum some of the fish food out. I don't know how high you should let your ammonia levels go though.

Cocktail shrimp is nice, because once you do get measureable ammonia levels, it's easy to remove.

The best way to run a cycle is with completely cured rock and LS but above all else is to be patient; no matter which method is used, it is best to add a cleaning crew and no other life (especially fish) for several months after the cycle has completed.

The nicest and healthiest tanks are that owned by hobbyists with patience.

One pea, once a day, no more. I tell people: feed an imaginary guppy, until your nitrate/ammonia spikes, then goes to 0. At that point your cycle will be done, algae will start up, and you can select cleaning crew.
