Refugium lights.. does it matter?

Does it matter much what type of lights you use to light your refugium?

I have an under-cabnet light, that uses Xenon bulbs & it has a white translucent cover... (not clear or see through, white that allows light to shine through)

Will something like that work ya think.

Looks like this ....

Hi there.

If you are going to grow macro algae in your refugium, this may help you.

I changed from tubes to this dirt cheap setup. My macro is BOOMING now. Also, it is much easier to get in the sump to do stuff since the bulbs are easy to get around and / or remove.

At the above link if you scroll all the way down you will see the compact fluorescent, i got the 5100k 19/85 watt. The light i went from i believe was a 36 watt 50/50 PC to this and my cheato grew almost double in the same amount of time i had the PC lighting. I exported more phosphates and more credit at the LFS for only 20 bucks for bulb and fixture. I did order mine at lightbulbsdirect.com.

I don't think it will be the greatest light you could get.

I use this combo with great results and it runs about $12.
