HOB skimmer, bubbling Q

I've been playing around with the HOB skimmer on my newly setup tank, which is cycled and moving along nicely. I got a Maxijet 1200 and did the DIY mod to get the venturi air on the inlet and it is working great, I think. I am getting a ton of micro bubbles going up the first chamber of the skimmer up towards the cup, ...these aren't supposed to be large bubbles, are they? Once I adjusted the height of the cup, I started getting some white skim into the cup within ten minutes. Not much accumulating, but at least soem movement up the tube into the cup. I just am not sure about the huge blast of micro bubble jet I am getting,or if it should to toned down a bit and have fewer larger bubbles.

If I understand what your saying the bubbles from the bottom of the skimmer (first chamber) are big like they comfrom a air pump, if so did you try reseating the pump or is the pump on the skimmer one that you put on it and not string enough, I would recommend putting on a recerculation pump on the side like a MJ1200 or something at that gph.

Sorry, what I am trying to say is the bubbles in the first chamber are in the billions, the MJ1200 I use is kicking them out profusely, and I thought they should be fewer and larger instead of many and micro. I had about 1/2" of greyish skim overnight so I think it is at least working fine.
