Need help with filtration on a 55 gallon

I'm having to get rid of my 120 gallon because it is too heavy for my house (my wall is starting to split at the ceiling, and almost goes to the floor.) So I'm selling it to my girlfriends step dad and he is giving me his 55 gallon he has to hold my livestock in until I can get my 65RR in soon..
The sump and pump he is running looks older than me and doesnt look too great... And I would really rather not use it.. I was wondering would a hang on aquaclear hold me over for a while?

Any advice would help... This is starting today!!
