I use it on my reef and recently added one to my fish only tank. I did see a real drop in the green slime algea that builds up on my fish only tank glass.

Just be carefull when you first add it to discard the first few gallons of water going through it (discard until it runs clear) and keep the flow rate low. I have to run mine with a very low flow rate and put a filter sock over the output to keep from grinding up the media.

I don't run carbon unless for a specific problem. It is not part of my regular maintenance.

It is funny that when I first started I ran carbon and phosphate removal media in filter bags on a regular basis but I stopped after a few months and my reef tank did not suffer at all. I think once the tank matures there is less of a need for it.

I also run a large UV and ozone on my reef so maybe these help negate the need as they help keep the water very clear IMO.

B.

I run sea gel

I run sea gel which is a combo carbon and phosban, in my tlf reactor, I run it 24-7, I use it in small amounts and change it once a month, I have had no problems and lots of growth, I have heard phosban releases metals into the aquarium, but I have had no problems, just dont use it in large amounts, to be on the safe side. I would reccomend rowa phos, but it is very expensive, I have used it and gotten great results, except for the price!!!
