Reef: Filter/Skimmer Question
I have a 20 Gallon long Reef tank with a few fish & Corals. I run the Skilter 250(go ahead laugh) It actually has been very good for me but I am now looking to upgrade & I'm considering getting a Aqua C Remora or Remora Nano, If I do that do I still need to have a HOB mechanical filter or can I just run with the Remora/Remora Nano & my routine water changes?

do you have any live rock? The live rock should be the only "filter" you have...the bacteria on it will break down the amonia on its own. I dislike using any types of filters with media in them (HOB's, canisters, and especially wet/dry's with bioballs) because they run a good risk of high nitrates...rock is perfectly fine on its own, plus the skimmer.
I strongly recommend the remora skimmer tho...i had it on my 55 with great success, and now that the 55 sprung a leak its on a 29 gallon tank and doing even better. Is it overkill? Probably ![]()

I ran a 20 long for along time, I would get the normal remora with the mxi jet, it was the only filter on the tank.
