Urchin Skimmer Filter Media Box
I'm in the middle of building my new reef. I really want to be able to easily introduce Carbon or similar filter materials into my setup. The only problem is I have very little room in my sump. To overcome this obstacle I built a little filter media box that attaches to my Urchin skimmer. It's not fancy or professional, but it should make it easy to introduce filtering materials into my setup as necessary.

I really like it. Great job. I have a turboflotor now and it has a box that came stock with it for bioballs. I took out the bioballs and put carbon, rowa phos, and purigen in there now. This DIY reminded me of my set up.I think it's great.

Thanks Fish.
I may have to drill some more drain holes. Let's hope it works like I planned! |

I don't know how fast you want it to drain. You might want to let the carbon get at least partially submerged. Either way though, I think it will work great and it looks very clean. Also it's nice to have on the skimmer outflow like that because it will act in part as a mechanical filter before it hits the carbon.
Let us know how you like it once the tank is up and running. FB
