leather polyps not extended

I have 3 different leathers in my tank.. (A toadstool, a green poly leather and a tan colored leather with light colored polyps
They ARE growing .. But I rarely see the polyps extended.

The tank has been set up for about a year.. my zoos, torch and frogspawn are all doin fine.

I have 29 gal tank.. total flow in the tank is around 700 gal/hr

Thax for ur help

whats the lighting? (i doubt thats the case since you got lps growing fine)

But how bout nitrates and phosphates?

Also, about once a week, my finger leather will shrivel up VERY small and get a kinda white coating around it...then a couple days later it will shed that off, and it will be bigger. Its how they grow i guess...but could it be doing that?

i have 2X55 PC blubs with AHSuppy reflectors..
so i doubt its the light... also my tourch and frogspwan are grpwing just fine..

nitrates around 10 ppm
phosphates cannot detect them

I am aware for the leather losing their skin... BUt they after they do that the polys still do not come out...

Sometimes i will see a little bit of extension but not much..

But th e person i took these frags from has a lot of poly extension..

these frags have been in my tank for over six months..

you dont have any direct flow on the leathers do you?? they will shrivel up when they are being hit with alot of flow, i keep mine closer to the bottom of the tank where the flow isnt as strong.

ya i'll have to go w/what jpitts said...the flow is probably too strong. I've got 2 leathers...a finger (or devils hand...nobody will tell me which one it is for sure lol) and a toadstool. Both of them seem to close up when flow is directed towards them. You've only got 24 times turnover so thats good, but if its directed at them, maybe just move it a little off of them. And in smaller tanks, i tend to ease off on the flow rate just a bit, mainly because theres such little space that the flow has to cover so it can get pretty crazy real quick lol.

the leathers are not in direct flow..
i check last night..
i put my hand where the leather are its gentle flow area..

could it be anything else..
I run carbon all the time , i change it every 2 to 3 weeks..
could that have anything to do with it..

no imo the carbon wont cause that. I've got carbon in my tank (and its actually do for a change now that i think of it...) and all my leathers open every day all the time.

I've noticed that mine won't polyp out when my pH drops below around 7.9.

How close are the leathers to any other corals? Close enough to be stung by anything? Also, I wonder sometimes about chemical warfare going on between corals.
