My outdoor aptasia breeder.
In an attempt to stay ahead of my aptasia needs, and avoid hand collecting them in the cold December ocean I have
created an outdoor breeding tank. I choose a spot that gets sun from first light to around 1:00. I hope this keeps it from getting too hot. The only action in there is a pair of air stones. Water test. Polycarbonate lid to avoid massive evaporation and rain. Figured I should block the direct morning sun and hide it. First occupant. Cheeto with an aptasia hiding out. Depending on the well being of the first anemone, I will either add some bigger ones or make this a tide pool tank. I'm thinking of burying a 10 gallon container to use as a sump/ground loop cooler but hope it isn't necessary. The reason for this is here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=962243 Enjoy. |

so wait you are breeding aipitasia for the sole purpose of feeding your slugs? wow, that is certainly a paradox in the aquarium world. I think I have to sit down.

Nice project!
If it doesn't get too hot, it should do very well.

LOL. At this point I just want the slugs to get big enough to hold their own in my large tanks!! On a side note, aptasias are cool to watch when you have a bunch in one place and are pretty easy to care for. |

Well this thing is working outstandingly!! The temp hasn't risen above 84 and the aptasia seem to love it.
On a sad note, my indoor 10 gallon tank full of aptasias has had a bunch just melt away! I'm wondering if I got a bergia hitchhiker with them. What ever is killing them is worthy of some research. |
