Swing arm hydrometer

So I decided to hypo my fish due to ich but before I went that route I knew I would need to get a refractometer due to how inaccurate the swing arm types are. My brand new toy arrived in the mail today and I was excited to see how badly my salinity had been off in the hypo and main tanks... after a quick calibration I had a few drops of tank water on the refractometer the anticipation was killing me and then the reading....

Identical to the hydrometer. I checked the hypo tank and it too matched excatly. Oh well. If nothing else it is a hell of a lot cooler to test the water with a refractometer

Hydrometers get old over time and slowly get off. Mine worked fine for a year and after that It was way off. I still use hydrometers but I replace mine every 6 months and clean it after every use to keep it clean.

I found new hydrometers from Aquarium Systems/Marineland Labs to perform rather well.

The one on the far right is the one I own. Actually I had read your review on them and almost did hypo with it but figured for 50 bucks I could be sure.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the desire to hypo my fish I wouldn't have bothered with the refractometer. I knew the swing arm was accurate vs the LFS's refractometer and it agree with the glass hydrometer I own.
