Need advice on setting up 75g reef on tile in my Kitchen

I am wanting to set up a 80g tank in my Kitchen on tile that is 1 foot square each. The person that laid the tile said I wouldn't be able to set up a aquarium on the tile because it would crack. What do you think?
the stand is 48" X 19". I am thinking that once the stand, aquarium, live rock,water, and canopy it would be very heavy, but I wouldn't think it would crack the tile.

anyone got a big tank on tile?

let me know

thanks

I've got a 70g on tile that's about 1 and a half ft by 1 and a half. No problems yet & its full of water and 80 lbs of live rock.

If I set it up on tile , it's only 8 tiles it could crack. My mom has at least 10 tiles left over. If they crack and I take down the tank, couldn't the 8 tiles be taken out and redone with my extra tiles?

I have a 65 gal with a 20 gal sump on 8 tiles. If the person putting the tile in did if correctly it will be fine. Also if the tile does crack you can remove the old one's and replace with new. Just make sure you know what color the grout is.

Couldn't you put down a piece of thick plywood under the stand, to help disperse the weight?

why not just remove the tile and put it on the floor, you could just cut the tile to fit around the tank stand and be totaly secure. i'd be afraid that if the tile crushed you could get the tank out of level. this would put a lot of stress on the glass.

an ounce of prevention...

I had a 150 with about 200 pounds of rock in it on tile floor in my kitchen for about a year. I was very worried about cracking the tiles but when I sold the tank, the tiles still looked brand new. Funny thing is the guy I sold it to has it on the second floor of his apartment
