FW evaporation in sump?

Well my 90g tank has been running for a day.

there just water in it right now but i npoticed the sump level where the return is lowedered about an inch or so.
I have no lights on it yet or anything just water and two pumps

Does the FW evaporate even with out lights on and stuff?

Yes, it always evaporates. Especially if you have the water heater on...

Yes, water is always going to evaporate from your tank and every day you're gonna need to top it off with FRESH water (not salt) to get it back to the top. The reason you use fresh water and not salt is because when water evaporates, it doesnt take any of the salt with it...so this will raise the salt level in the tank (less water, same amount of salt). So when you add fresh water back, it just balances the salt to what it was before.

ya i totally no about the top off and stuff (forgot to mention)

i alway just thought it was the lights a nd stuff that evaporated the water.

just makin surre my overflow and return pump are working well and didnt waant any leaks or anything

no lights dont make water evap. The heat from them can to a certain point, but when you've got a sump, that will automatically make your evap go up. When you get the water to be turbulent on the surface (or even stronger like an overflow releasing the water into the sump...all that water is going quickly over air at some point) it will make evap go faster. That and if you put a fan blowing on the tank...that will make air go faster, which makes water evap more. But i like that part...it cools my tanks 5 degrees so i can live w/topping off a gallon a day.

i just need to get a reliable auto-top off and then put a 5 gallon jug on thestand and then eventually get my ro/di unit and fill it up every couple of days
