Question What fish for my 90 gallon?

Right now I only have 1 blue hippo tang, 1 lyretail anthias, and 1 false perc. My blue jaw trigger, which I had for about 2 months, died yesterday and all my parameters are fine, so I don't know why. I only want a couple more fish, and I was thinking about getting a Kole Tang and maybe a flame angel. What would you suggest?

Thanks,
Matt

First, if you had an unexplained fish death, I hope you will quarantine the new guy...if you have anything loose in your tank, you will give him 4 weeks for you to find it out, and be sure he doesn't complicate matters by bringing in ich---you know tangs are real magnets for it. I think either of the fish you name would be fine, but do you have any idea what happened to the trigger? Was it failure to thrive, or something else?

I really don't know why the trigger died, he was doing fine for the last 2 or 3 months that I had him. He ate ALOT and was constantly out and swimming around. Although, in the last couple weeks I started putting seaweed on a clip for my tang in the tank and the trigger would abolutely devour it. He would eat about a 2"x2" piece every time I put it in the tank. Could this have had any effect?

I'd agree with Sk8r. Figure out why the Trigger kicked the bucket. If you can't find anything, then start thinking about fish. If you're going to go with any tangs, make sure you get the tangs you want when you want them. The chauvinistic push for dominance they always employ very often results in ick-- another of Sk8rs comments I agree with.

The flame angel would be fine. (They're so pretty, I love those guys.)

I guess I just counsel you to be careful-- especially if you add tangs. I think they ought to be the last fish anyone adds, just because of the headache they can cause. Compound that with the fact that you had an inexplicable death and you could be dropping serious money on fish that are doomed to bit the big one.

HTH
