Couple questions about PJ/Spotted Cardinalfish
Hey there!
I am looking at getting a few Pajama/Spotted cardinalfish, and I noticed on the Liveaquaria compatibility chart that they have 'caution required' with Blennies, I have a Lawnmower blenny in the tank right now. There is also a Blue damsel in the tank, but he will be removed before any other fish are added. Does anyone have problems with these two fish together? I thought possibly they are referring to the scooter type blennies, but not sure.... Also, I was originally going to get 4 or 5, but I think now I am going to just get 3, does that sound like a decent number? They are going in a 90g. Any other opinions would be great!! Thanks!! |

PJ cardinals are really nice little fish. I have one and she tends to stay near the top but I'm not sure if that's where they always stay (mine does move lower as lights get lower). I've never heard of them having problems with blennies; perhaps you could ask Sk8r or one of the moderators on the Fish Forum. It's probably a good idea to move the damsel--pj's are very peaceful and will get stressed with aggressive fish. Also, and I could be wrong, but Lawnmower blennies aren't that aggressive so they should be fine. But again, I could be incorrect so check out the fish forum and see what they say. Good luck!!

I have a PJ in with a bicolor blenny. There was a little bit of drama when they were first added (at the same time), but that has since subsided and neither pays the other much attention. I have provided a couple spots for the bicolor to hide/perch in that the PJ can't get in to, while the PJ has a couple caves and overhangs if it feels threatened. Though it spends most of the day cruising around the tank at mid level, they are much more active at night after the main tank lights go out.

I don't see any problem putting them together. Just remove the damsel before you put in the PJCs. I have three PJCs in my tank, and they just kindof hang out, not bothering anyone. They are not a very dramatic fish, but they are safe for the reef tank.

Yeop the damsel is going to be removed (got another tank going for 'his' kind)
Otherwise thats good to know, I don't really see a problem with them together either, my LMB seems pretty decent, even with the Damsel.. |

I have a really large Kaudern's Cardinal with a Tail Spot Blenny in a 55 and they seem to do just fine. The Cardinal has been in the aquarium almost as long as the first fish, a blue/green reef Chromis. Once in awhile the Cardinal will give just a little chase to the blenny, but it almost seems to do it as a game, because it doesn't last more then a second or to and nothing comes out of it.

The only thing that has even looked at mine twice is the GBMaroon. My Lawnmower is at the bottom of the tank and the cardinal is at the top. I don't know anything about grouping them tho.

I had a problem between a bicolor blenny and a school of bangai cardinals, I placed the blenny in time out for a week and now he has no problems. The problem is; he was the first fish in the tank and he thought he owned it.
